When you first create a Neo4j Aura Instance through the Aura console, the system will generate a random password. It is imperative that you copy and preserve this password in a safe location, as it will not be displayed again. You can use the Download button to save your credentials file to the system.
Neo4j Aura Support cannot recover or reset an Aura Instance password for you. It should be noted that Neo4j personnel will never request your password for any reason.
Should you lose your initial password that was provided when your Aura Instance was created, you can gain access to your data again by:
- Downloading the latest dump (Export) and loading it to another Aura instance
or - Cloning the affected instance into a new Aura instance
While using the clone option, your data will be cloned to a new database, and you will be able to access it using the new instance's credentials.
You can access all the cloning options from the ellipsis (…) button.
For a step-by-step guide on cloning, please refer to the official documentation Cloning an instance. It is worth noting that cloning will change the connection URI, so make sure you use the new URI for connecting to your database.
Alternatively, if you had created additional user accounts other than the default neo4j user account at the Aura Instance level (not the Aura console), you could reset the password following the methods described here.
