Unable to DROP a Neo4j user with a period or special character in the name

I am unable to DROP a user with a period (ie, ".") in the name. What is the proper syntax?

Please try using backticks like:

DROP USER `john.doe` if exists.

Note: backticks are not recommended to use except in special circumstances.
