Since Aura is a managed service, we manage the instance, the underlying services and backups.
Cluster setup:
- As all AuraDB enterprise instances are 3 member clusters, in the event of a single node failure, the cluster will try to recover automatically using one of the other running nodes.
- If this fails, we will intervene and attempt to perform a manual recovery of the failed nodes, using the available nodes.
- Since AuraDS instances are single node deployments we only have the ability to restart the failed member or perform a restore from the the available backups.
Restoring from Backups:
- Aura Enterprise instances (both AuraDB and AuraDS) are backed up multiple times every day, and the snapshots are retained for 90 days - AuraDB backup and snapshots retention
- By default, Enterprise Aura instances are backed up once an hour.
- For larger instances, this frequency might be reduced to once every two hours or once every four hours. The customer will be notified about any such changes in backup frequency.
- We can use these backups to recover your instance if we are unable to restore the Aura instance completely from available cluster members.
Time for recovery:
- We provide 24/7 support for Production environments for our Enterprise customers and will act upon Sev-1 incidents as soon as we receive them.
- The time for recovery, however, completely depends on the size of the instance and the complexity of the issue.
Recovery options for the customer:
- In the event of an unexpected data delete / wipe performed by the customer, they can recover the Aura instance to a previous state using one of the available snapshots for the instance.
- Customers can view and download these snapshots from the Aura Console.
- They also have the ability to restore the snapshots to the same Aura instance or a new one.
