This is a quick high level overview to outline the differences between AuraDB and AursDS products.
AuraDB
AuraDB, is the Neo4j graph database as a service. AuraDB is fully managed and completely automated and is highly available with self-healing infrastructure. It is designed to scale on-demand without a loss of service, with enterprise-class security (including Role-based Access control with the enterprise tier level).
Its is available on multiple cloud platforms (GCP, AWS and Azure), in the region of your choice (Ideally close to your applications).
As you would expect of a managed service, AuraDS instances
-
are automatically upgraded and patched;
-
can be seamlessly scaled up or down;
-
can be paused to reduce costs;
- have fully managed backups.
AuraDS
AuraDS is essentially Neo4j Graph Data Science (GDS) as a service. AuraDS is fully managed, designed to scale with you needs, with optimised database instances, enterprise level security and all of the features of Neo4j GDS, without the need for administrative overhead.
As you would expect of a managed service, AuraDS instances:
-
are automatically upgraded and patched;
-
can be seamlessly scaled up or down;
-
can be paused to reduce costs.
AuraDS runs as a single instance rather than a cluster.
For more detail regarding AuraDS, please refer to the product documentation for AuraDS, which includes information about the architecture, examples as well as support and pricing.
Additional Features
Some other key features to highlight are:
- Both AuraDB and AuraDS integrate with Neo4j connectors, such as the Apache Spark Connector, for reading and writing data.
- It is possible to clone a database instance from one product to another, as highlighted in the knowledge base article Can I Clone Between AuraDB and AuraDS Instances?
- Both AuraDB and AuraDS run the latest version of Neo4j, which is currently version 5.x.
- AuraDB and AuraDS instances can be paused at anytime on demand and only run when you need them. When paused no compute or memory activity occurs, you data and backups remain intact and you only pay 20% of the running costs.
